UFC Island Style

Well…

Dana White and the UFC prove once again why they are a one-of-a-kind fighting promotion. White announced that he has acquired a private island where all UFC events can take place for the foreseeable future. The first event being UFC 249 on April 18th, now being headlined by Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje for the interim Lightweight title. The fight was originally meant to be Ferguson vs Khabib for the undisputed lightweight title, but Lightweight champion Khabib is stuck in "mother Russia" quarantined with his family. The card’s co-main event is still on with a rematch between Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas in a strawweight bout. The main card also includes former NFL standout, Greg Hardy, as he takes on undefeated Yorgan De Castro.

White hasn’t revealed where this private island is located or how much he paid for it; All he has said is that the foundation is set for future cards to be held at the island until the COVID-19 pandemic dies down. Only essential personnel will be present during and leading up to the fights to ensure everyone's safety. As of right now, legendary commentator Joe Rogan will be there to handle the mic duties for UFC 249, but that remains up in the air with Rogan’s concerns over the Coronavirus. Just a few weeks ago Rogan stated on his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience”, that he will take no part in UFC 249 amid the Coronavirus pandemic, but who’s to say White wasn’t able to change his mind and get him on board for the April 18th event.

In a world where all sports are canceled for the near but hopefully not distant future, leave it to the UFC to find a way to make their fights happen and give the fans what they want. Those savages love to fight and I don't think anything or anyone can stop them from doing so.

*As of today, UFC 249 has been canceled*
